Speedo LZR Racer Elite NOW AVAILABLE

January 11th, 2010

SOS Swim Shop is delighted to announce the delivery of Speedo LZR racer elite jammers. The kneeskins arrived last month so we now have some high performance swimwear to offer both male and female swimmers that is fully FINA approved for 2010. However, stock is limited so grab it while still available!
All our Speedo FS11 jammers and kneeskins are also on the legal list but we have very few available. It is also worth mentioning that legskins are still legal for masters swimmers. The whole issue of legal swimsuits is complicated and in my view has many grey areas however all the above suits are completely legal for 2010

Bustinskins

December 10th, 2009

I recently met Mark from Bustinskins, if you are triathlete you MUST visit his site. I was invited to take the shop to the Weymouth Classic triathlon in September. The weather was fabulous and the organisation superb. I will glance over the fact that I had to leave home at 3.45am and that it was still pitch black when I was setting up!! I heard many competitors thanking Mark for an excellent event and he even arranged breakfast afterwards for everyone.- a most welcome touch. Check out this link, make sure you watch the video to the end and keep an eye on the Father Christmas in the chimney at the front! http://www.bustinskin.com/events_32525.html

Wild Swimming

December 9th, 2009

Its hard not to like cheeky geordie Robson Green, and following his extreme fishing adventures, i was looking forward to his Wild Swimming Adventures on ITV last night.

part2While his technique looked rather weak the content of the show was quite good fun. Two things stuck me during the first of this two part series, firstly the sheer insanity and of swimmer and an environmentalist Lewis Pugh, who has made a name for himself swimming in waters that are simply far too cold! I see from his website the next goal is to swim a glacial lake under the summit of Mount Everest. Thats a lake at 5,300meters, think about that next time your in a competition training pool!
Secondly how lucky we are to have such an array of wild swimming here on our doorstep – maybe this is something we should all do – i loved the line from The Outdoor Swimming Association “swimmers have too long been held in chlorined captivity” !!

And lastly it was nice to see some local swimmers featured, well done to you!

Part 2 follows next week Tuesday 15th December, 2009

Visit Broadstone this weekend

November 13th, 2009

Friday 13 November 2009.

If you are planning to visit the SOS Swim Shop this weekend you could be one of the first through the door of Brambles. (www.brambles-restaurant.com) The new bar and restaurant right next door to us opens today.  We were invited to the launch night yesterday and the transformation has to be seen to be believed. It will be a great asset to Broadstone, and all of you who travel to visit us will have somewhere to eat out and recharge your batteries before your return journey.

Not only that but we also have a Beer Festival just over the road at the Goods Yard  (www.thegoodsyard.com) this weekend.

Broadstone is definitely the place to be this week end!

Poole Pool News

November 2nd, 2009

There is lots of swimming pool news in and around Poole, some exciting and some not so good!

Canford School
Monday 26 October saw the opening of the new 25m, 6 lane pool at Canford School.   Costing £4.5 million to build this is a superb new facility.  The whole building has a spacious feel, the poolside is wide, the windows are large and the changing rooms spacious. As you would expect there are a number of innovative features including a chemical pool cover.   Rather than use the traditional and cumbersome blue cover on a roller, the chemical pool cover uses a thin chemical film that lies on the water surface and works whenever the surface is flat bringing about very considerable savings in both heat and water loss. If that isn’t enough, it also biodegradable.

Canford School Starting blocks

A number of clubs and organisations have expressed interest in using the new pool including Ferndown Otters who will soon be transferring some of their training sessions

Whilst the centre itself will not be offering swimming lessons, they are hiring lanes (7.30am-1.30pm and 6-9.30pm) on most days. So if you are swimming teacher looking for pool time for private lessons this could be exactly what you want.

Membership is currently open although I understand from the General Manager  Glyn that places are limited so if you are interested you will need to be quick.

Broadstone Leisure Centre
We are delighted that the future of Broadstone Leisure Centre is now secure. Having been rescued by the Bournemouth YMCA the Leisure Centre is now out of Administration and running normally. – Really good news.

Dolphin Pool
Unfortunately the news for the Dolphin Swimming Pool is not so good. According to the Daily Echo the pool, which closed in July after an electrical fire, is now due to open in November.  The reopening date has been put back several times so lets hope it makes this latest deadline.!!
