Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

At long last the Dolphin Pool has re opened this week! If you have not been swimming since its closure in July and have misplaced your swimming bag, why not visit us at the SOS Swim Shop and treat yourself to an early Christmas present. We have the largest range of swimwear in the area, so you will be sure find something to suit.

Visit Broadstone this weekend

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Friday 13 November 2009.

If you are planning to visit the SOS Swim Shop this weekend you could be one of the first through the door of Brambles. (www.brambles-restaurant.com) The new bar and restaurant right next door to us opens today.  We were invited to the launch night yesterday and the transformation has to be seen to be believed. It will be a great asset to Broadstone, and all of you who travel to visit us will have somewhere to eat out and recharge your batteries before your return journey.

Not only that but we also have a Beer Festival just over the road at the Goods Yard  (www.thegoodsyard.com) this weekend.

Broadstone is definitely the place to be this week end!

Poole Pool News

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

There is lots of swimming pool news in and around Poole, some exciting and some not so good!

Canford School
Monday 26 October saw the opening of the new 25m, 6 lane pool at Canford School.   Costing £4.5 million to build this is a superb new facility.  The whole building has a spacious feel, the poolside is wide, the windows are large and the changing rooms spacious. As you would expect there are a number of innovative features including a chemical pool cover.   Rather than use the traditional and cumbersome blue cover on a roller, the chemical pool cover uses a thin chemical film that lies on the water surface and works whenever the surface is flat bringing about very considerable savings in both heat and water loss. If that isn’t enough, it also biodegradable.

Canford School Starting blocks

A number of clubs and organisations have expressed interest in using the new pool including Ferndown Otters who will soon be transferring some of their training sessions

Whilst the centre itself will not be offering swimming lessons, they are hiring lanes (7.30am-1.30pm and 6-9.30pm) on most days. So if you are swimming teacher looking for pool time for private lessons this could be exactly what you want.

Membership is currently open although I understand from the General Manager  Glyn that places are limited so if you are interested you will need to be quick.

Broadstone Leisure Centre
We are delighted that the future of Broadstone Leisure Centre is now secure. Having been rescued by the Bournemouth YMCA the Leisure Centre is now out of Administration and running normally. – Really good news.

Dolphin Pool
Unfortunately the news for the Dolphin Swimming Pool is not so good. According to the Daily Echo the pool, which closed in July after an electrical fire, is now due to open in November.  The reopening date has been put back several times so lets hope it makes this latest deadline.!!
